Be careful though that libjpeg-turbo is API and ABI compatible with libjpeg62. SVN trunk code is able to emulate some parts of the ABI / API in libjpeg8, but it is far from complete. Authors don't even know if the missing code will be added some day. However, since Debian is still using libjpeg62 for a lot of packages (actually, only renrot is using libjpeg8), it can be a good idea to package it as a replacement of libjpeg62. I've tested it with geeqie, and it *is* much faster.
