Is it possible that you compiled an lzma-compressed bzimage? Usually the compression ratio is estimated at 2. In case of big initrd it may land in a region which is clobbered by bzimage being decompressed. This was a widespread issue on EFI since there GRUB tried to put initrd at lowest possible address, but by now it should be changed to try to load initrd as high as possible -- Regards Vladimir 'φ-coder/phcoder' Serbinenko
