I have no idea. I do not see how the "number:" construct could enter into the file. We call ucfr with a hard-coded string as its first argument (tex-common, of course), and in /usr/bin/ucfr this argument is assigned "as-is" to the $pkg variable. Manoj, do you have an idea?
