The online manual clearly states:

|> When you edit your photos, a new copy (called a version) is created,

However, the "rotate" operation does not work if the original file
is not writable because it attempts to modify the original instead of
either a) creating a new version (as the manual states it will do),
or b) storing the new display setting in the database (as it does for
tags/ratings/etc).

It is important to me that my original files are never modified in any way.
If the manual clearly states "your original is never altered", then there
must never be a situation where it needs write access to the file.

I think this bug should be fixed by f-spot 0.8 which you can find in
experimental. Unfortunately it can't be fixed in Squeeze because it is
frozen for all but release critical fixes for some time now.

If you are able, could you upgrade to 0.8.2-1 in experimental and see
if this fixes your issue?

Cheers,
Iain
