9.09-5 (unstable) should fix this. On upgrade you will be transitioned from
rxvt-unicode-ml to rxvt-unicode (same as the old -ml package), if you want
to deal with the 256-color mess there is rxvt-unicode-256color. If this does
not go smoothly for you please open another bug.

(If you know anyone who wants to adopt rxvt-unicode, I'm about to send a
message to -devel. I'm not going to touch the other thread.)
