Have you restarted both network-manager and nm-applet after upgrading to 0.8.2? Or is network-manager 0.8.2 running in combination with a 0.8.1 nm-applet. Then your issue might be a duplicate of #612291 -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
