I just purged and reinstalled the package, still the same bug.
The problem is somehow related to ALSA and/or JACK drivers.
When I start musescore with jackd running *or* JACK enabled under
Preferences->I/O, the bug does not occur and sound doesn't work. However
with jackd not running and JACK disabled, I have 100 % CPU usage and the
sound works.
For me, this looks like an ALSA bug combined with my misconfigured JACK.

musescore puts the following warnings on console when jackd is not
running and disabled in the musescore settings:
