tag 614171 - moreinfo severity 614171 minor thanks When sensors-applet was first created, the hwmon interface didn't exist, so it was written to gather sensor data from several different backends.
These days, hwmon (via libsensors) is probably the only place that user-space should go for sensor information. But I don't want to unilaterally remove all the other backends from the applet, in case they are still used by someone with an older kernel. macarthur, if you want to use sensors-applet then I suggest you configure it to use the libsensors backend.
