Package: installation-reports Severity: critical Justification: Will not boot, so no system.
20.02.2011. Install then auto reboot. Failing on any Reboot with Wheezy Testing, Unstable and Experimental. Failing to complete auto reboot after upgrading to Debian 6.0.0 stable squeeze, I upgraded to Wheezy Testing weekly build snapshot i386 20110204-05:44 which fails to reboot at the end of the install to single SATA drive from a DVD. # grub-install -V (GRUB) 1.98+20100804-14 (Via rescue mode) I then net-upgraded to unstable Sid 20110218 which also failed to complete the auto reboot at the end of the net upgrade. # grub-install -V (GRUB) 1.99~rc1-3 I then upgraded to Debian experimental 20110220 which also failed to complete the auto reboot at the end of the net upgrade. Experimental at this time has the same grub-pc package version as the Wheezy testing weekly build snapshot i386 20110204-05:44 namely (GRUB) 1.99~rc1-3 All and any reboots from the single drive have the same failure, with symptom: "No valid device! Press any key to continue... or) Press <Ctrl+s> or F4 to enter RAID utility" My Note: I believe this is as it should be, as the RAID controller BIOS tells me that there are no RAID arrays set up by me, as I am just using the RAID controller, not for RAID but to drive my single SATA disk drive and the controller's faster bus. Disk Controller: Card Manufacturer = "For Best Ports Connection" PCI chip: Silicon Image SiI 3114 sata raid, bios version 5.3.14 2006. More machine details are way above here. Reboot Symptom (continued), Motherboard BIOS talking now: "Searching for Boot Record from SCSI .. Not Found Boot failure Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device Press any key when ready." Note: Just for clarity, I set the mobo BIOS setting to boot, first, from the SCSI, not the CDROM. Using the Wheezy DVD 'Advanced Options','Graphical rescue mode' but being carefull to use the /dev/sda located programme, Debian Experimental 20110220, not the Rescue Wheezy snapshot 20110214. # cat /boot/grub/device.map (fd0) /dev/fd0 (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST3160815AS_9R... A reboot from the single DASD fails. I hope this installation-report helps. I am certainly learning. Thank you for keeping up the good work.
