Now how would I do that? In both my custom 2.6.30 and std debian 2.6.32-5-686 DRM_I915_KMS is not set -- and says: [...] will cause pain. [...] precludes loading things like intelfb. In 2.6.30 there is no DRM_KMS_HELPER. With the std debian kernel the kms_helper module is loaded automa[gt]ically, but makes no difference. xserver-xorg-video-intel up to and including 2:2.9.1-1 worked fine for me. Unfortunately I can't find that anywhere, thus am forced to use 2:2.3.2-2+lenny8 from oldstable, which somehow seems to me not to work as well (slowing things down). There's no mention of KMS anywhere in the X accompanying docs. Please convince me that Intel is NOT trying to produce a catchall for 915 different cards/chips, which practically only works on 50% of them -- or maybe just not on the one I have! Should you (hopefully) care to reply, please consider this as well: Would it be appropriate to create a new bugreport that reflects the actually described problem, or do we simply run on with the 'crashes X'-subject?
