After I wrote those patches I noticed similar ones have been created and pushed yesterday by accountsservice developers.
daemon: read minimal uid from login.defs http://cgit.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/commit/?id=fdb2cbeafc daemon: drop desktop_<role>_r group checks http://cgit.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/commit/?id=733291e426 (this one will still need patching, as it changes accountsservice to use the wheel group, which is not used on Debian, and doesn't add the desktop user to any group) The third patch should still be ok.
