It seems that lines 11/12

    COMPREPLY=( ${COMPREPLY[@]:-} $( compgen -f -X "$xspec" -- "$cur" ) \
            $( compgen -d -- "$cur" ) )

are the offenders. Unfortunately, this looks like line noise to me...
