I just recall that to enable med support the precense of libhdf5.so is mandatory... I think (but I may be wrong) that removing libhdf5-openmpi-dev will "disable" med support... :( I understand that libhdf5-openmpi-dev is not available for all platforms but it seems it exists for almost all platfomrs except m68k (unofficial port). To my point of view it is best to keep libhdf5-openmpi-dev to enable med support on most of the platforms and wait for libhdf5-openmpi-dev support for m68k...
