Looking through http://dev.mutt.org/trac/. I commented the option: set message_cachedir = ; like suggested in this bug report: http://dev.mutt.org/trac/ticket/3457 and this solves the issue. Also looks like there is a fix here: http://dev.mutt.org/trac/changeset/1a4c43138685
