I think you mean onak rather than mailavenger, and onak already has code to deal with a Berkeley DB upgrade. I have already made modifications upstream to move to the generic db dependencies and allow versions 4+ in the configure script rather than just 4. I'm hoping to do an upstream release in the next week or two, at which point I'll also do an upload to Debian. J. -- Revd.
