So, when I press M-s for the reverse search, the terminal (in multitab) freezes visually -- seems not react on any keypress (C-q etc) I have tried, nor if I blindly enter "reset". But actions seems to be carried out (i.e. if I blindly type a command it has the effect) I still can switch to other tabs etc (if that is relevant).
