Hi, After reading about the move to /run in the release goals, I upgraded my Wheezy to use initscripts from unstable and then found my network not running. Googling about I found this bug report. I've tried upgrading the rest of the sysvinit packages to no avail, also downgrading everything didn't help.
Reading bug 625204 as well, i checked and my /etc/network/run is not a symlink to /dev/shm/network but is a directory with chmod 755 set. Making it a symlink to there didn't help either did the patch attached to that bug report. I'm also pretty sure that i tried symlinking /etc/network/run to /run/network to no avail. Checking with ifconfig lo gets created but eth0 is missing (but is mentioned in ifstate). So I am open to try any suggestions which might both a) fix this for me and b) help prevent this happening to others when initscripts gets updated. thanks MikeJJ P.S.
