Package: debian-cd Version: 3.1.6 Severity: normal Hi,
Debian-cd ISOLINUX setup uses the ECMA-119 names while booting (Linux later uses the Rock Ridge names by default) and putting and dot in directory names is a violation Paragraph 9.1.11 of ECMA-119. Currently debian images layout contains /install.amd/vmlinuz which leads to the following error while booting: Error message is: Could not find kernel image: /install.amd/vmlinuz libburnia versions currently in squeeze are: libisofs 0.6.32 libisoburn 0.5.6.pl00 (libburn is unrelated) These versions does not yet violate ECMA-119 by putting '.' into directory names, however this 'feature' is supported since libisoburn-1.0.0. There is an option -disallow_dir_id_ext of xorriso -as mkisofs to disable it if standards compliant ISO 9660 images are desired. Genisoimage flatly ignores this constraint. Reference: https://mailman-mail1.webfaction.com/pipermail/libburn-hackers/2011-June/000622.html Impact: I'm not sure how frustrating would be to avoid having dots in directory names anymore, but this bug should at least document the issue regardless of the further decisions. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages debian-cd depends on: ii apt 0.8.14.1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii bc 1.06.95-2 The GNU bc arbitrary precision cal ii cpp 4:4.6.0-5 The GNU C preprocessor (cpp) ii curl 7.21.6-1 Get a file from an HTTP, HTTPS or ii dctrl-tools [grep-dctrl 2.18 Command-line tools to process Debi ii dpkg-dev 1.16.0.3 Debian package development tools ii genisoimage 9:1.1.11-1 Creates ISO-9660 CD-ROM filesystem ii libcompress-zlib-perl 2.035-1 Transitional dummy package for Com pn libdigest-md5-perl <none> (no description available) ii libio-compress-perl [li 2.035-1 bundle of IO::Compress modules ii lynx 2.8.8dev.8-1 Text-mode WWW Browser (transitiona ii lynx-cur 2.8.8dev.8-1 Text-mode WWW Browser with NLS sup ii make 3.81-8.1 An utility for Directing compilati ii perl [libdigest-sha-per 5.12.3-7+b1 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ii tofrodos 1.7.8.debian.1-2 Converts DOS <-> Unix text files, Versions of packages debian-cd recommends: ii hfsutils 3.2.6-11 Tools for reading and writing Maci ii netpbm 2:10.0-12.2+b1 Graphics conversion tools between ii syslinux-common 2:4.04+dfsg-2 collection of boot loaders (common debian-cd suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
