Hi there!

I firstly reported this bug to Gnus/Emacs, before discovering that
actually the problem is Dovecot:

  To: bug-gnu-em...@gnu.org

At least from 20110226 (emacs-snapshot_1:20110210-1 according to my
dpkg.log) sometime while checking for new emails Gnus hangs on the
message "nnimap read $KILOBYTES". The remote Dovecot log shows the
following:

This problem was reported to the Dovecot upstream mailing list back in
October 2010 and fixed upstream soon after:

<http://news.gmane.org/find-root.php?message_id=%3csmuvd4pdekg.fsf%40linuxpal.mit.edu%3e>
  <http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-1.2/rev/b30af25c622d>

I applied the patch to the Debian stable version and indeed since last
Thursday, June 30, I have not experienced Dovecot panics anymore. The
packages I used to test it are available at:

  <http://people.debian.org/~gismo/tmp/>

I will send the patch as soon as this bug receives a number, please
consider it for a stable update, since according to the above thread
this is not specific to Gnus/Emacs (that is also the reason behind
Severity: important).

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca
