On my system, it seems acroread display Japanese Gothic correctly. Does your acroread have Japanese Gothic fonts? IIRC, Adobe forgets to provide Japanese Gothic fonts for acroread (of Japanese version) since long time ago, so I've copied Gothic font, KozGoProVI-Medium.otf, from old system.
