Newer kernels and Xorg packages, used in unstable don't support the old v4l API but only v4l2 API. Old upstream version 3.95 using only v4l calls fails to use the overlay mode and xv mode. Upstrem version 4.101 complies and runs correctly (at least with the bttv,saa7134 kernel drivers).
