Does the fix at https://github.com/jgoerzen/hpodder/pull/5 resolve this
for you?

Package: hpodder
Version: 1.1.5.0+nmu3
Severity: important
Since last update (debian wheezy), hpodder breaks at almost every run when
doing update. Example:
63% [36 0 B/1 B 0%] [7 0 B/1 B 0%] 1 B/s
12shpodder: /home/taxi/.hpodder/feedxfer/9c2aeec566459261461f19e5b96dba4c:
hGetContents: invalid argument (Invalid or incomplete multibyte or wide
character)
It does not seem to be related to some specific podcast or xml-file, it happens
now and then with almost every podcast.
