Hi, I'm the developer of sxiv.
I did some tests regarding this issue: feh shows the same misbehaviour, whereas qiv does not. I've looked at qiv's sources and it turns out, that it uses gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file() instead of the loader function from imlib2 to load its image files. Changing the code to use the loader-function from imlib2 results in the same misbehaviour.
