Yes. I use Debian stable but backport any leaf application that moves.

Yes, why not. Doing backports is not rocket science but I have not
enough time for the bundled responsibility that comes with official
backports. (Quote from bpo: "Please note, that you are responsible for
this backport from the time on when it was accepted on
debian-backports.")
