I have also recompiled the gdm3 package in debian squeeze from the source package after applying Julien Pinon's patch.
Just wanted to inform that I have been using the patched gdm3 package for about 3 weeks so far without any problems/visible regressions on my system (using Debian squeeze, linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64) Also hoping there will be a new fixed version of gdm3 coming soon in debian squeeze.
