This can be worked around with
aptitude -o 'Acquire::Check-Valid-Until=false' ...
or
apt-get -o 'Acquire::Check-Valid-Until=false' ...

Another possibility is to downgrade to the xserver-* packages from
squeeze-backports which has 1.10.x (squeeze only has 1.7.x).
