The .aff file contained in this package defines the rules for compound words in German, see page 5 of http://dfn.dl.sourceforge.net/project/hunspell/Hunspell/Documentation/hunspell4.pdf (PDF version of man 4 hunspell, because I didn't find it in Debian just now).
