Good news! I just upgraded grub-common and grub-pc from version 1.98+20100804-14 to version 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze1 (the version in Debian 6.0.3)
After the update, I tried to boot from each of my 4 raid1 members, and.. now the system boots! This issue is no longer present for me. Anyone can retest with grub 1.98+20100804-14+squeeze1 and confirm?
