I was trying to get a build of /usr/bin/host which i could run in gdb to help with #648113 , but gave up after 3 tries and just put in the bug as is.
First try: - DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug dpkg-buildpackage -sa GDB reports: - warning: The current binary is a PIE (Position Independent Executable), which GDB does NOT currently support. Most debugger features will fail if used in this session. Reading symbols from /usr/bin/host...(no debugging symbols found)...done. Second try: - Remove build-dep on hardening-wrapper, purge hardening wrapper. - DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug dpkg-buildpackage -sa GDB reports: - Reading symbols from /usr/bin/host...(no debugging symbols found)...done. Third try: - export DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug - DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=debug dpkg-buildpackage -sa GDB reports: - Reading symbols from /usr/bin/host...(no debugging symbols found)...done. (Yes, I installed my new packages each time).
