Hello, yes, this problem of the menu line not appearing drives me crazy, too. Upstream was not aware of it, just because the problem is most likely not with their code but with (according to bug report #648968) some likelihood this is an issue of wxWidgets are explained on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wxwidgets2.8/+bug/662077 .
