I'm having precisely the same problem. My impression is that the Ubuntu
bug is different (the console output slightly differs, and the
"LD_PRELOAD" workaround didn't work for me).

I'm available for additional feedback/testing.

(by the way, if I try to upgrade python-gobject to the version in
unstable I'm asked to uninstall 82 other packages)
