Since at least 1.0 (upstream) version, 32bit qemu-kvm binary does not always work on 64bit host kernel. The problem most often can be seen on restart of (windows) guests - qemu-kvm process just freezes after - apparently - losing some interrupt. Sending some signal to it, or attaching/detaching gdb makes it to go again.
