Package: tor
Version: 0.2.2.35-1
Severity: normal

I am trying to use vidalia to run tor. I have stopped tor, and edited
/etc/default/tor to avoid it running as a daemon.
Vidalia fails to start it, and logs:

Jan 04 15:49:27.068 [Warning] /var/run/tor is not owned by this user (joey,
1000) but by debian-tor (115). Perhaps you are running Tor as the wrong user?
Jan 04 15:49:27.069 [Warning] Before Tor can create a control socket in
"/var/run/tor/control", the directory "/var/run/tor" needs to exist, and to be
accessible only by the user account that is running Tor. (On some Unix
systems, anybody who can list a socket can conect to it, so Tor is being
careful.)
Jan 04 15:49:27.069 [Notice] Closing partially-constructed listener Socks
listener on 127.0.0.1:9050
Jan 04 15:49:27.070 [Warning] Failed to parse/validate config: Failed to bind
one of the listener ports.
Jan 04 15:49:27.070 [Error] Reading config failed--see warnings above.

I am in group debian-tor, but the directory permissions, as set by
both the postinst and the init script don't let me write there.

drwxr-s--- 2 debian-tor debian-tor 60 Jan 4 15:41 /var/run/tor/

AFAICS, next time I boot, the directory won't even exist, since
/var/run is now in /run, and the postinst only creates the directory
when starting tor.
