Package: apt Version: 0.8.6 Severity: important commands like apt-get install, apt-get upgrade etc frequently run into dependency problems, resulting in pretty much unreadable messages like:
The following packages have unmet dependencies: libc6-dev : Breaks: cmake (< 2.8.4+dfsg.1-5) but 2.8.2-2 is to be installed Breaks: gcc-4.4 (< 4.4.6-4) but 4.4.5-2 is to be installed One could guess it means libc6-dev depends on cmake and gcc, and that it requires cmake with version < 2.8.4, but then the message is still wrong, since one would also guess it's going to install cmake-2.8.2-2, which sure is < 2.8.4. A more sensible message would be greatly appreciated. Offering a (link to) possible solution of such conflict would also be nice :) -- Package-specific info: -- (no /etc/apt/preferences present) -- -- (/etc/apt/sources.list present, but not submitted) -- -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages apt depends on: ii debian-archive-keyring 2010.08.28 GnuPG archive keys of the Debian a ii gnupg 1.4.10-4 GNU privacy guard - a free PGP rep ii libc6 2.11.2-6 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgcc1 1:4.4.5-2 GCC support library ii libstdc++6 4.6.0-10 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 compression library - runtime apt recommends no packages.
