That's certainly possible: nothing I've done to pm-utils or uswsusp makes it any better, though I haven't tried all possible variants of options (since every test ends in a restart). Also, I don't think I've updated pm-utils recently, but I'm fairly sure I've updated the kernel once or twice. > I'll report back later.
