Hello,

There has been some discussion of this in Bug #330064 and debian-devel. I
thought about it and agreed with your view that menu-xdg (not menu itself)
would be the correct place to do this. So this isn't a Debian menu issue at
all.

But I'm not convinced that automating the creation of .desktop files for
display managers is really a good or necessary idea, for reasons I've
outlined in the discussions above. Furthermore, menu-xdg isn't the best
maintained package around, and without someone stepping up (who believes
the .desktop auto-generation approach to be the way to go, which I have yet
to be convinced of) to handle it, then I fear that nothing will happen, and
it will remain up to the individual window manager maintainers to either
wait and see what happens, or just to add their own .desktop file. The
result will be an inconsistent user experience. Any thoughts on the
situation?

Thanks,
Christopher Martin
