Will 5.4 make it into Squeeze though? If not then the configuration file is going to be broken (or at least include a deprecated option which causes warnings) until the next full release.

Can the php.ini file not be patched to fix this, just as it is patched to change the session path? I appreciate it's not Debian's fault that upstream shipped a broken configuration file, but the fix is fairly simple.
