I guess it's just that the color picker works a little bit(?) strange, but it does work. The point one must know is that you can't change a color once it's added to the list. Instead, just click on the color selection field to open the color picker, select the color you want, and close the color picker by clicking ok. Now the selection field shows the selected color, and the text field on its left shows the color code. Note that you can't change the code to some arbitrary name, as that would revert the color selection. Instead just click on the 'add' button to add the color to the list above. You could also just enter a color code (like #88ff22) into the text field, instead of using the color picker. Or you could even enter a color name, but it must be a color known to the system. I don't know which colors are possible, but successfully tried some like 'gray' or 'lightgreen'. What you can't do is giving some arbitrary name to a color. To change a color, one must add a new one and remove the old one - there seems to be no way to change an already added color. I hope this helps - please tell me if it still doesn't work.
