I've also been running into this with every Iceweasel version since 8.0, upwards to the 10.0.1 I'm running today. I'm seeing the same freeze in futex calls already reported by Luc Maisonobe. Never had this class of issue running the stock Debian Iceweasel in Squeeze, always had it on every system that's running >=8.0.

Today I found a reproducible test case similar to what Ivan Baldo mentions, starting with a launch of the browser from Icedove, then switching to youtube.com as the next destination. This problem has never been 100% reproducible for me except in this one isolated case. I am suspicious that Icedove is directly to blame though. This problem has been really common for me, I believe I've run into this when launching the browser directly, too. The fact that it seems more likely to happen when launched from Icedove I would guess is a coincidence rather than a root cause.

Anyway, with today's reproducible case in hand, one that does start with clicking a link in Icedove, I started turning things off. After several rounds of isolating out what in my settings might be to blame, I discovered the problem comes and goes based on whether the Shockwave Flash Plugin is loaded. With Shockwave Flash 10.3 d162 enabled, and all other plug-ins/extensions disabled, I can reproduce the hang every time here now. Disable that plugin and the hangs have gone away for me, even if then turn back on every other plugin and extension.
