The host system is mostly a somewhat outdated squeeze (but with some
bits from lenny for reasons I won't go into here). The version of the
kernel package is 2.6.32-40.
IIRC the build was run in a reasonablly up to date but rather dirty sid
chroot.
This is very strange. To achieve this result, the rename(2) system call
has to have non-POSIX semantics... or the test run as root.
I did indeed run the build as root.
