Debian recently passed a general resolution regarding the GFDL, details
of which are available at:

        http://www.debian.org/vote/2006/vote_001

It has been brought to my attention that the info documents in the tar
distribution include unmodifiable sections:

        http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=357259

Are you willing to make suitable changes to the tar manual to eliminate
the unmodifiable sections, or must I elide part or all of the info
documents from the Debian package? I've been considering moving to
1.15.90 to pick up fixes for other bugs anyway, so an ideal situation
from my perspective would be a manual update that eliminates the
unmodifiable sections followed by a new snapshot release on either
alpha.gnu.org or the stable site.

Thanks for your attention to this. Please preserve the CC in any
replies so that our bug tracking system can keep a copy of the
conversation.
