Feel free to bring it up with tech committee. I believe there is particular
mailing list (debian-ctte) dedicated to such issues.

Get a life. R has been in Debian for about 7.5 years, and this "feature" was
a constant during all those years. This is, as I explained at length, a
design decision of the R upstream team which reflects both the multi-platform
nature of R, and the fairly strong cohesion of the R system which has to make
assumptions about where its files are.

Severity reset to wishlist. As I said, I intend to address this for etch with
the upstream authors.  But not now, and not this way. Sorry.
