It would surely be possible to replace them, for example with fonts from the Vera series. I can easily adapt the Debian package to replace the ttf files (although I'll have to shipped a modified tarball with those non-free bits removed). But the Fonts.bmp file annoys me a little : how did you produce it ? Although it does not seem to be derived from the Luxi fonts, it would be nice to have a Makefile rule, or even just a README, to help regenerate it from another font (ie. it is probably not the "preferred form of the work for making modifications to it" that would qualify as "source code" for the GPL - although the original font is probably not covered by the GPL).
