I had a idea for this: What is your /usr/lib/openoffice/program/classes
like? And its contents if it's a dir?
(That was a change in -5, where the symlink got replaced by a farm of
symlinks to fix something many extensions rely on...).
But the upgrade correctly does the right thing...; and I removed classes/
completely and oowriter still started...

But I *think* I got it: Does it fix the problem for you if you install -calc
(if you haven't already)?
