I had the same problem, but the driver will automatically create it for you if you do these:
1. Compile raid autodetection in your kernel 2. Set the partition types that are used in the raid volumes to 'fd' (raid autodetect) instead of 83 (Linux) This will cause the kernel autodetection to tell udev to create the /dev/md* devices for you. Alternatively, a line in /etc/udev/links.conf to tell udev to create it for you will also work, but it's the hack way.
