libgtkextra-dev is a real package built by gtk+extra (which seems to be the successor of gtk+extra17). So this build-dependency is still satisfiable after the removal of gtk+extra17. It is also a virtual package provided by libgtkextra17-dev, built by gtk+extra17, which might be the thing that confused dak.
