Hi, I confirmed this bug, and ldconfig doesn't solve for me.
Whenever I enter password in dictionary, for example "dictionary", segmentation fault happens soon after "(index fread failed): Success". # passwd kmuto New UNIX password: dictionary (index fread failed): Success Segmentation fault I tried LANG in C, ja_JP.EUC-JP, and sk_SK, but results are same. My environemnt is same as Robert (on vmware). I haven't met this problem when I use other word what isn't in dictionary. I'll investigate more. (Hmm, what's "index fread failed"...?)
