Not that I am involved in this, but is it clear which are acceptable solutions? _If_ the FFmpeg version is compatible (easier to achieve by just not sticking to MPlayer releases but just updating it to SVN when FFmpeg is updated), just copying the libavformat/libavcodec/libswscale/libavutil directories over is one possibility - no idea if the build tools have an automated way for source-level code sharing though... Using the generated .a files should not be too much effort either, if there is a way to have some internal FFmpeg headers installed as well. Without those internal headers or when using .so files there would be a bit of trouble though, at the very least some features like -vf fspp would be lost...
