What I thinks needs to be done is look into the unit test failures more closely, try to isolate java-gcj-compat bugs (or at least incompatibilities with sun-java5/6) and try to have those bugs resolved. Unfortunately, that will be quite a bit of work which I don't have time for now. I'm a bit reluctant to move lucene2 into main while we know it doesn't work properly with java-gcj-compat, but I'll let Michael overrule me...
