Andrea, you are the maintainer, it's up to you to downgrade the bug if you really believe that the severity is over-inflated. I tend to agree that important is enough. It would be better to have a fix but if we don't have any, it's not a reason to remove the package from lenny. You could however document the problem in README.Debian until it's properly solved.
